Sector fairs in Turkey
Fairs are generally regarded as venues for events where new technologies are displayed and demonstrated to yield real life outputs. Between the two drupas (2004 and 2008), there were some paper and printing sector fairs that took place in Turkey. Three of the printing sector fairs organised in Turkey were being organised for the first time and they came in 2005 and later. In the same period, five organising establishments held 9 printing sector fairs, other than those that were exclusively for label or packaging.
• TÜYAP Printing and Paper Industries Fair (Istanbul, 2005)
• IPT Istanbul Paper Printing and Packaging Technologies Fair (Istanbul, 2005)
• Printing and Paper Fair (Ankara, 2004 and 2006)
• MAKRO – Printing, Paper, Outdoors Advertisement and Printing Technologies Fair (Izmir, 2005 and 2007)
• Greater Anatolia Printing and Paper Technologies Fair (Ankara, 2004 and Kayseri, 2006)
• Gamatex – Gaziantep Printing Machines, Paper Printing and Packaging Technologies Fair (Gaziantep, 2007)
TUYAP, the organiser of the most important printing and paper fair of Turkey, organizes the largest annual European packaging fair, Istanbul Packaging Industries Fair. This fair that is organised with the cooperation of various associations of packaging, will again be on at TUYAP’s Beylikduzu Fair and Congress Centre for the thirteenth time on 17-21 October.
Cardboard packaging biased IPT Istanbul Paper Printing and Packaging Technologies Fair is designed to be held once every four years and its first one was held in 2005.
Label sector is also striving to expand the annual Private Label Istanbul Fair besides the packaging and printing fairs.
Sign Istanbul Outdoor Advertising Fair is being organised annually as the most important fair of indoor and outdoor sectors dominated by the digital systems. Likewise the annual Outdoor & Indoor Advertising Solutions Fair that is held in Istanbul is among the fairs that draw the interest of printing sector.
Another fair that attracts the interest of label, packaging and printing establishments with its seminars and conferences in the area of marketing is the Marketinist Marketing Tools and Services Fair and Conference. In this annual fair, the fourth of which was held this year, the printing, label and packaging establishment exhibit their products and capabilities to the high level administrators of leading Turkish establishments.
The largest printing fair of Turkey is organised by TUYAP (Tum Fuarcilik Yapim A.S.). The last one, the tenth, was held in Istanbul in 2005 with the participation of 891 firms and was visited by close to 34 thousand in the six day duration, 1763 of which from abroad. There isn’t another printing fair that approaches to TUYAP’s in number of visitors.
Besides Istanbul, there has been printing sector fairs in Ankara, Izmir, Kayseri and lastly, in Gaziantep, in south east Turkey. These fairs serve to acquaint the remote printing shops with the sector, to open these cities to the printing market besides being venues for the displaying of new technologies and products. The participating firms displayed almost the same products in these fairs. The participating firms with the suppliers of materials are of the opinion that such frequent fairs are not very beneficial. Most of them look at these occasions as opportunities of making themselves known and venues where they can strengthen their positions. Furthermore, those businessmen who don’t have the possibility of attending the international fairs look at these fairs as places where they can gain information on new and developing technologies.
In Turkey, there were two printing and paper fairs. According to the organising firm, Tunajans, The Makro ’07 fair in Izmir that was held on 13-17 June was visited by more than 20 thousand. There were about 400 firms, including the representatives. Tureks, the organiser of the other, Gamatex 2007 that was held in Gaziantep on 6-9 September was visited by more than 13 thousand, again according to the organiser.
Most of the executives of participating firms in Turkey complain about having to participate to two fairs in a year. We can comfortably foresee that they will be more hesitant about participation in the future, basing this on what is told to Matbaa Haber.
