A top Turkish printing firm, Promat A.Ş. buys two Komoris
Promat Basım Yayın San. ve Tic. A.Ş. is a leading Turkish printing firm that has introduced several first to the printing sector in Turkey. Back in 1991 when the market only knew the American and European, and German among the latter, presses but founder Ahmet Ürkmezgil didn’t hesitate in investing for two Komoris even then. His path breaking decision not only established the lasting cooperation of Komori and Promat, but also opened the market other Far Eastern countries’ technology besides the Japanese and encouraged them to vie the country as a ground for prosperous business.
Tolga Ürkmezgil, the Vice President of the firm told Matbaa Haber the brief history of the firm and told that they have been the first firm in Turkey to invest for two 4-colour 70 by 100 presses in 1994. He points out that most colleagues found such an action over ambitious and argued that the market would not support such a capacity. However, Ürkmezgil states that they weren’t making short or middle term plans, they were looking further ahead to the longer terms.
The firm’s latest investment of two more Komoris is another first in very wide format offset presses. With the acquisition of these presses, Promat is now able to undertake all tasks that can be performed by any Komori machine anywhere in the world. In other words, they got the best that is available. The created capacity is for the time being is excessive and the firm can manage with only half the business they are capable of but they hope to gear up enough in a six month period to reach full capacity usage. The two new Komoris were installed at the new plant of the firm they are still completing. The new building is in operation however, and Ürkmezgil states that they tend to call it the temple of printing, not just their new premises.
The new building is equipped with all the latest technology facilities and most of the intelligent recognition apparatus are installed and the air conditions are automatically accorded to the type of job that is being performed. Environmental considerations are observed to the fullest extent and the well being of the employees is secured to the best possible manner.
The firm has recently delivered a turnkey printing shop in Kazakhstan, complete with the building, machines and equipment. The firm that has become the largest printing firm in Kazakhstan was completed in a record time of six months and Promat also extended the initial training for the new recruits. Promat hopes to become an “exporter” of such complete printing firms in the future based on their Kazakhstan reference. The firm already exports other products to Europe and it is quite commonplace to come across the European market the brand of Promat.
Promat also has the founding of a publication firm among its plans. The firm started accepting jobs through, and having proofs done by the Internet fourteen years ago, another first for the country. Their three plants in different sections of Istanbul are coordinated by their new office in Levent at a central location in Istanbul. The three separate sites is needed and beneficial for proximity to the business and ease of delivery purposes. The central office’s location is chosen for the benefit of the customers who cannot move too far from their own businesses and yet have to contact on a personal level with Promat for their orders. The electronic telecommunication facilities among the plants and the headquarters avails them this possibility.
