World Print & Communication Forum stages Conference on Environment at Drupa

28/05/2008

During Drupa the World Print & Communication Forum (WPCF) will hold a conference on the important subject of Environment giving an insight on how this topic is treated in the different parts of the world and the work being done to improve environmental performance of the graphic industry.

On Tuesday June 3rd the WPCF Environment Conference will gather speakers from around the world to present and discuss the importance of environmental matters in the global graphic industry.

The conference will provide a summary of environmental legislation and give an insight on how printers manage these legal constraints in their daily work. Presentations will feature the situation in the US, China, Japan and Europe.

Mr Yui from Japan will concentrate on the increasing environmental awareness of customers and the public as well as the reactions of the Japanese government to reply to this trend. In Europe most environmental legislation is centrally regulated for all 27 states with possibilities for national governments to impose stricter limits, i.e. on emissions or waste. Voluntary initiatives are of great importance in the European Union; i.e. different sectors of the paper chain work together to improve the recovery and recycling rate. Ms Teresa Presas as representative of the European Paper Industry (CEPI) will focus on paper as a renewable resource and present their position and view on current European issues and initiatives taken.

The point of view of machinery manufacturers will not be neglected. Heidelberg will give an insight into the contribution that a printing machine manufacturer can make to help printers fulfil the increasingly strict legal requirements as well as the requests by customers for environmental friendly printing.

Representatives from the Chinese Printing Association as well as from the Printing Industries of America will present current trends in environmental matters and explain the influence of national legislation on printing companies. Ample time is foreseen to engage the audience in a discussion on environmental matters and the role of the graphic industry.

The conference is organised by WPCF with the support of Heidelberg. WPCF is a global platform for exchange of information between transnational and national printing associations and other stakeholders of the graphic industry.

The conference will take place on the Drupa fairground at the CCD South on June 3rd from 13.30 hrs to 17:30 hrs in room 2. Participation is free of charge, but registration in advance is compulsory.
