Adobe launches APPE 2

Adobe has launched PDF Print Engine 2 (APPE 2), which provides native variable data handling in partner workflows and processes new file format PDF/VT for personalised print. The firm said APPE 2 and PDF/VT meet industry demands for a simpler variable data workflow and so will enable growth in personalised print.

Workflows from Creo, DirectSmile, GMC, Pageflex, Printable and XMPie using PDF/VT will be at drupa. APPE senior product manager Mark Lewiecki said: “Vendors such as EFI, Kodak, Xerox and Océ are building products based on APPE 2.” The first products based on APPE 2 and PDF/VT are expected to ship by the end of this year.
