Rallying behind the reading aloud initiative
30/05/2008
“Reading Start – The Reading Initiative for Germany” was launched yesterday, with celebrity faces adding a little glamour to the event.
The Reading Foundation is spearheading a campaign to make reading aloud popular again in families. Parents who take their one-year-old child to the preventive paediatric examination will receive a free reading starter set, which contains book recommendations, brochures and a first picture book.
Sponsors for the campaign include actress Christine Urspruch, who is familiar as the pathologist on the Münsteraner Tatort show; Erdogan Atalay, actor from the crime series Alarm für Cobra 11; and the Viva moderator Gülcan Kamps. They arrived at the Düsseldorf Theatre yesterday to celebrate the launch of the campaign together with many children and their families. The sponsors also include companies from the print and media industry.
The regional initiative “Germany – Country of Ideas” has distinguished the campaign as one of the prizewinners in the “365 Places in the Country of Ideas” competition.
