Drupa veteran's second home
05/06/2008
Augusto Monteiro and his team dominate distribution in the Portuguese-speaking world
80-year-old founder and owner of Portugese company Grafopel, Augusto Monteiro has been to every drupa since 1954 and practically feels at home here. It’s no wonder because he has already spent 182 days or half a year of his life in Düsseldorf. The charming Portugese still remembers his first drupa very well. Above all, he has a lively memory of the long drive by car through Portugal, Spain, France and postwar Germany .
Whenever machines by Heidelberg and Polar-Mohr are used in Portugal, on Madeira, the Cape Verde Islands or in parts of Africa, it is mainly thanks to Monteiro.
Already in its third generation, his extremely successful family business with 60 employees distributes machines made in Heidelberg and Hofheim. And his sons José, Paulo and Rui, as well as his daughter Graça, have never had any doubts about staying loyal to the graphic trade.
It’s not surprising then that the date for drupa 2012 (3 to 16 May) is already written in ink in their appointment calendar.
