Chesapeake, one of the world's biggest cartonboard packaging printers, has made a major investment at drupa with a manroland HiPrint 700.

The machine will be installed at Chesapeake's site near Frankfurt, which specialises in pharmaceutical packaging, and will feature UV and infra-red drying. The new investment, which was signed off at manroland's stand by Chesapeake's buying team of Dr Malcolm Exeter and Ewald Gerstenecker , will allow the Neu-Isenburg facility to produce an extra 180m cartons every year.

The press is a six-colour configuration and features the full range of manroland Quickchange options, including automatic plate loading, which speed up
makeready on both the printing and coating units. Mike Cheetham, director of Chesapeake's pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging division, said the company was "delighted to continue its long-standing working relationship with manroland".

He added: "This press configuration provides us with a very robust and flexible system that will help us to ensure that we continue to deliver the very best in printed carton boards to our customers." The press purchase will be followed by other ancillary equipment to be installed over the coming months.
