New machines for new markets
In the area of step index processing, Durrer Spezialmaschinen AG is a leading global provider. For a range of other areas within paper processing, the Swiss mechanical engineering specialist offers niche products. Now for the first time at DRUPA (hall 11 / booth D56), Durrer presents innovative machines for embossing technology and paper coating.
Embossing technology – new development sets new standards
P-FLEX is our newest flagship offering. This machine combines the characteristics of P (from the German prägen, for embossing) and FLEX (for flexibility) in an ingenious way. Durrer has already received two orders for this machine, although until now it is only operating as a prototype. Both clients are enthralled with its new possibilities.
P-FLEX is a fully automatic machine for film and dry embossing. It has an automatic feed and discharge system (from and into stacks). Output ranges from 1,200–1,800 products per hour. The machine can process both bound products as well as semi-finished products such as book covers. The maximum embossing area encompasses 320 x 220 mm. The embossing process takes place with high load accuracy by means of an electric servo drive with a range from 0.2–7.5 tons. An additional highlight of this machine is the fully automatic printing plate exchange (up to dimensions of 120 x 120 mm). The mobile embossing head retrieves the printing plates automatically from the pre-heated printing plate magazine. The machine’s idle time is limited to a minimum. For larger printing plates, a semiautomatic, rapid-exchange mechanism is built in.
Paper coating
One year ago, we acquired the rights to the paper coating machine WEBCOAT from Enz Technik AG in Giswil/Switzerland. This laboratory machine reproduces the paper coating process very realistically. Development departments of paper manufacturers can test and optimize individual formulations with the help of this machine.
Book and book block finishing
ZUSA is also a new development, in this case for the insertion of advertising pages in loose sheet stacks. In contrast to present-day, intricate manual labor, our new solution offers clients lower costs and greater flexibility. In addition, production procedures can be optimized. Two machines of this type are already in operation.
Step index processing
With REGA 5, our fully automatic step index processor, Durrer presents a trusted machine. Paper weights starting from 30g/m2. Book block thicknesses up to 60 mm, automatic counting control, formats from A5 to A4 and an output up to 1,500 units per hour – these are the performance data of this reliable machine. REGA 5 has undergone further step by step development since the last DRUPA. New functions include "round corners" and "perforate." A modern servo drive reduces wear as well as noise emissions.
Further exhibits include REMAT, the semiautomatic index cutting machine, as well as REBIB and KLEBIB, our two machines for processing of half-moon cuts. The semiautomatic REBIB cuts half-moon indexes in book blocks. With KLEBIB, pre-manufactured adhesive tabs can be bonded in the desired tab positions with high precision.
Wall calendar finishing
MONA, our automatic date slide unit, produces and assembles date slides on simple wall-, three-month and multiple-month calendars fully automatically. Customer-specific window formats, as well as combination possibilities with BLOFIX, our wall calendar assembly line, are essential advantages of this machine. And finally, manufacturing costs per date slide are roughly one-third less than external purchasing.
