COMMITMENT TO OFFSET PRINTING FOR FLEXIBLE PACKAGING COMEXI GROUP and Wikoff Color Corporation are partnering in Drupa to showcase the latest innovation for the flexible package printing. These innovative and open-minded partners are driven by the same goal: Sustainability. At Drupa 2012 they will show the printing of low-migration, solvent-free inks for food packaging with a central impression offset press.

The COMEXI OFFSET CI8 press will demonstrate the possibilities of offset printing on a light gauge plastic material, thanks to the central impression lay-out. The offset printing will be offered to Comexi Group’s customers, giving them the following benefits: lower costs per square meter, the highest capacity of producing offset plates in-house within minutes, decreased ecological impact thanks to the solvent free EB offset inks, high quality (fading screens/fine screens/micro text) and higher energy efficiency. Impressive samples and live shows will be demonstrated daily.

Wikoff will highlight their commitment to the sustainable printing by showcasing their Regal EB lithographic inks, which are a proven set of process colors that have excellent print properties and very stable performance on press while being widely used in many food packaging applications. These inks are sharp-printing and have excellent adhesion to paper, paperboard, and many plastic films. They are suitable for receiving a clear top-coating, such as Wikoff’s EB Coating, or they may be reverse-printed on clear film and covered with an opaque white, such as Wikoff’s EB Flexo White.

Comexi Offset: the new way of printing flexible packaging It’s common knowledge that offset printing is dominating the printing market nowadays with more than 56% printed in such technology. When it comes to flexible packaging, the offset printing scenario is completely different with negligible impact. At the same time, the flexible packaging market have been desperately demanding improved solutions to enhance the printing quality, the waste management, the cost impact of the converting production on to the package and the environmental impact. That is the reason why flexo and gravure printing have evolved to reduce the quality gap with the offset printing.

But now, COMEXI GROUP is offering a new solution based on the offset technology that can shake-up the current paradigm of the flexible packaging printing: COMEXI OFFSET.

The COMEXI OFFSET CI8 press is a new product line based on 6 offset printing units and 2 flexo printing units around a central impression drum (CI) with EB (electron beam) offset inks and Flexo EB for coatings and backgrounds. It is focused on the flexible packaging market on plastic films (light gauge material as PE, BOPP and PET) which embodies the essence of Comexi Group’s strategic principles: innovation with a global impact and the ability to provide the industry with global solutions. The new COMEXI OFFSET concept is primary focused on the flexible packaging and the label market. Specifically:
