Citizen qualifies thermal paper from Mitsubishi Elaborate testing guarantees long life cycle of thermal printers

May 7, 2012, Bielefeld – Citizen Systems Europe certifies thermal paper from Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe for POS-printer Citizen CT-S801 and Citizen CT-S851. The certification covers conventional and newly developed thermal paper without bisphenol-A and phenol.

The direct-thermal technology enables printing of variable information at low costs. Mitsubishi papers have been tested in thermal printers from Citizen in an extensive long-term test. All papers successfully passed the quality inspection thus guaranteeing a very long durability of printers as well as trouble-free and good printing in the long-term.

The release includes all thermoscript thermal paper grades for “point of sales“ applications:
F 5041, P 5045, P 5055, P 5046 and P 5047. The last-mentioned papers have been developed in 2010 and provide an alternative to traditional POS-grades because of the selected colour developer. The special difference: thermal receipt printing paper grade P 5046 does not contain any bisphenol-A whereas P 5047 does not contain phenol.

“Citizen focuses very much on quality and sustainability”, explains Jörk Schüssler, European Marketing Manager at Citizen Europe Systems. “Our quality requirements do not only comprise printers themselves but also thermal paper because low paper quality shortens the life cycle of printer and printer head and causes poor printing and problems. Papers which have been tested by us provide trouble-free running and good quality”.

Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd. to demonstrate new truly chem-free CTP solution at drupa 2012

Düsseldorf, 10 April 2012

Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd., leading manufacturer of specialty papers and of CTP plates in the 2- and 4-up printing format, will exhibit innovations for the printing industry in a 250 square meter size booth under the slogan “Print.Profit.Preserve.”

For many years small and medium size printing houses world-wide have been using Mitsubishi platemaking solutions to successfully grow their business and increase their profitability. In fact, Mitsubishi Digiplate systems have become synonymous with compact, fast, ecological and economical CTP.

The drupa 2012 highlight in the Mitsubishi booth is the presentation of the new CTP platesetter with the latest generation of chem-free offset printing plates, Violet Digiplate (VDP). The Violet Digiplate is a true chem-free polymer plate with cross-linking technology and it is available in polyester or paper-based plate material in various thicknesses up to 0.28 mm. The excellent printing properties of the Violet Digiplate will be demonstrated live on a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 press.

The VDP plate is imaged by a fully-automatic CTP internal drum device with violet laser. The CTP platesetter, Violet Digiplater VDP-CF 3070, is designed for a maximum plate size of 780 x 680 mm.
After imaging, the plates are washed off in the built-in processor with only water and without any chemistry. This extremely compact and environmentally-friendly CTP system is characterized by low energy consumption and a minimal CO2 footprint as well as its chem-free production. As an innovative technology demonstration, Mitsubishi will show a recycling unit designed to clean the wash-off water used in the platesetter, thereby making the water available for re-use after a process.

The VDP plate system will be available for commercial release from drupa 2012.

The Thermal Digiplater TDP-459 is shown as innovation for small offset printing. The compact, table-top system, designed for the 2-up printing format, images paper offset printing plates without any consumables other than the plate material itself. The TDP system is an environmentally-friendly CTP system which is absolutely chem-free and process-free.

In the area of functional printing, Mitsubishi Paper shows the novel Silver Nano ink and media system with live demo for the applications in Printed Electronics. With the system, customers can obtain electrical circuitry without any post process requirements simply by using inkjet technology with Silver Nano ink and special media.

On a large format Epson inkjet printer, Mitsubishi’s high level of competence in inkjet film and paper materials, and in applications in the reprographic and photographic range, is demonstrated.

Additionally, a selection of new, high quality coated communication paper products including production inkjet papers from Mitsubishi Paper Mills group will be on display on the stand.

Visitors will experience live in Hall 9, Stand C22, that the new products combine both best functionality and high level of environmental consciousness – for the benefit of customers and users.

JETSCRIPT Inkjet Paper
Mitsubishi presents a full line of coated inkjet papers for "White Paper Solutions" for colour transactional and transpromotional printing, direct mail, brochures or book printing. Part of the range are also matte and glossy coated inkjet papers, which were specifically designed for the self adhesive label industry who are looking for a quality coated face paper for impressive colourful label applications. Thanks to the special coating, the ink is managed in an optimum manner to achieve maximum densities and pinpoint precision. True colour reproduction, colour brilliance, print density and sharpness of the print image are offering an eye catching label design. All grades are FSC-certified and are suitable for the normal recycling system.

THERMOSCRIPT Thermal Paper
The thermal papers on environmentally friendly recycled base paper are focus on the concept of sustainability. The products are made from 100% FSC recycled pulp, without showing any loss of the good functionality. Relevant factors such as smoothness, brightness, stability, printability and print head behaviour are on the usual high level. Mitsubishi offers the recycled thermal paper grades currently in weights of 80g and 170g. They are used for example as lottery tickets, parking tickets or admission tickets.
At the same time, Mitsubishi presents innovative safety features for thermal paper with a high degree of protection against forgery. Whether coloured centre, watermarks or digital watermarks, security fibres, or even a combination of several features - the product range is wide. These thermoscript products are not only used in the segment of transportation tickets or event tickets, but in many other applications as a security solution of choice.

GIROFORM Carbonless Paper
Giroform Digital is perfectly suited for the production of high quality personalised carbonless forms. With a standard of 90g/m2 and a Light weight of 60g/m2, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper assures best print quality on digital (laser) and offset presses. While Giroform Digital was designed for presses like HP Indigo and Kodak Nexpress, Giroform DIGITAL Light is perfect for black and white or colour printing on office and industrial presses and was tested on Canon imagePRESS and Konica Minolta bizhub series. Energy Management at Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe certified as DIN EN 16001 compliant

January 13, 2012 - Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe (MPE) has long taken environmental and sustainability concerns into account in the production of its high-quality special papers. Now it's gone one step further: Its existing energy management system has been certified as DIN EN 16001 compliant.

Managing Director Gerhard Schoon emphasises that "MPE's existing energy management system was already an acknowledgement of the company's obligation to environmental preservation and responsible use of non-renewable resources". Energy concerns have routinely been reviewed within the framework of the environmental management system, and an energy management system has been in place for years, to great success. Recognising the increasing importance of energy as an issue at large, MPE has formally adapted energy awareness into the company's policies and has introduced an energy management system certified to the DIN EN 16001 standard.

"The recently certified system does more than just us in a position to pursue our goal of constant improvement of our energy efficiency and energy cutting efforts", notes Gerd Finkenhofer, MPE's energy management officer. "In the sense of continuous improvement, we naturally expect that before the year is out the current certification based on the European standard will be replaced by DIN EN ISO 50001 certification, which is valid worldwide and befits our globally active company".

The process of continuous improvements that has been initiated ensures responsible, sustainable handling of resources throughout the entire company. Among other contributions, it has been shown reduce greenhouse gas emissions. All units of the company are affected: from R&D to purchasing, from the production chain as a whole to maintenance and repairs and on to distribution logistics. The installed systems at the Bielefeld and Flensburg locations have been inspected and certified by TÜV Nord.

Giroform DIGITAL media approved for Ricoh printing systems

June 6, 2011 - Giroform DIGITAL carbonless media of specialty paper manufacturer Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe have been successfully tested on Ricoh printing systems and officially approved.

Giroform DIGITAL is the self-copy medium of choice for a perfect document management. It is suitable for the production of individual, personalized forms in groups and individual form sets with the highest security requirements. Giroform DIGITAL is the first carbonless paper, which was approved from the Rochester Institute of Technology in the United States (RIT), both for use on the HP Indigo system and on the KODAK NEXPRESS System.

After extensive testing, Ricoh now gave the European approval of Giroform Digital carbonless paper (CB 90 / CFB 86 / CF 90) for a given number of Ricoh printers:
