You may recall that as part of drupa’s policy to more actively engage with our visitor audience, we have commissioned the ‘Global Trends’ series, designed to pick up on global and regional trends in the economy and markets. This is an annual series and the fourth has just been published based on a survey conducted in October 2016, when just under 1200 printers and suppliers participated from across the world.

As you know, drupa 2016 was a great confidence boost for the global industry. The survey conducted last October gave broad statistical support for that confidence. Such a positive mood is not universal, either in terms of market sectors or geographical regions. Whilst Functional and Packaging print are in expansive mode, Publishing print is in a more defensive mode with Commercial print somewhere in-between. In regional terms, the Middle East has chronic problems undermining performance and Africa and South/Central America remain fragile. Nevertheless, despite the slow recovery from the 2007/8 recession and the impact of digital communications, things are looking up for print.
