Packaging of tomorrow – which can already be touched today! In a visionary special forum of drupa 2016, everything will revolve around one of the most important highlight themes of drupa 2016: Packaging production.

Future trends in this area are, for example, paper with exceptional haptics, which can turn packaging into first-class advertising mediums by way of the interaction of outstanding finishing technology and high quality design. Or electronic displays and sensors that make packaging intelligent; digital print that allows personalisation and versionalisation. The concept of touchpoint packaging, which reflects the potential in the design and production of packaging, is aimed directly at branded companies, packaging designers and print service providers, who are already active in the packaging segment or those who would like to be.

The concept

Graphic touchpoint packaging

drupa touchpoint packaging is a visionary and designed space dedicated to packaging production and design. It will be located in hall 12, stand B53.

Covering four main vertical markets the permanent, special show will reveal how future packaging and design will deliver additional value, initiatives and growth opportunities for brand owners, agencies, print service providers and buyers, product and packaging experts.

touchpoint packaging is designed and implemented in close cooperation with the European Packaging Design Association (epda), Europe’s leading association of brand and packaging agencies. “We approach the entire spectrum of the world of packaging: Technical/functional requirements, cultural and ethical standards, economy and efficiency, the range of substrates right up to the applied technologies“, explains Claudia Josephs, Project Management epda.

In order to be able to better reach the special needs of the different user industries, touchpoint packaging is structured into four “future labs“ – namely into “food & beverage“, “non-food“, “pharmaceuticals“ and “cosmetics“. Successful practical examples as well as conceivable, prospective production solutions will inspire the visitors in a sustainable manner. A separate programme in the forum itself will specifically present the themes.

According to current forecasts, the packaging market will grow to US $ 985 billion by 2018. touchpoint packaging comprising some 20 participating exhibitors from Agfa and Hewlett Packard to Océ reflects the relevance of this market.
