CorruTec ASIA 2021 holds inaugural edition in Bangkok alongside PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL

CorruTec ASIA 2021 holds inaugural edition in Bangkok alongside PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL

A new addition to the Messe Düsseldorf Asia (MDA) portfolio, CorruTec ASIA – International Corrugated Technology Exhibition for Asia, will debut from 22 to 25 September 2021 at BITEC, Bangkok, Thailand. A joint collaboration with the Thai Corrugated Packaging Association (TCPA), it is a dedicated exhibition for manufacturers and suppliers of machinery, accessories, technology and services from the corrugated and folding carton industries.

CorruTec ASIA aims to provide an ideal sourcing platform for industry experts from corrugated sheet and box manufacturers, folding carton converters, rigid carton manufacturers to vertical markets such as packaging designers and product managers from the food, cosmetics, luxury goods, medicine, automotive sectors and more. Held alongside the well-established PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL, the co-located exhibitions will represent the synergistic industries and end-to-end value chain for the packaging, printing and corrugated industries.

With global online sales expected to hit US$5.5 trillion in 2023, this will create a significant impact on packaging demand, particularly in the corrugated industry which represents 80% of demand in e-commerce1. Coupled with the increasingly complex logistics chain for direct to consumer delivery – e-commerce packages are expected to be handled up to 20 times or more during standard distribution, thus generating a new demand for cost-effective secondary corrugated board packaging. Thailand’s folding carton and corrugated packaging market is expected to register a CAGR of 8.42% through to 2025, driven by the innovative paper- based packaging developments in the country2 and advances in digital printing technologies, making Thailand an ideal location to launch CorruTec ASIA.

Commenting on the partnership with MDA and co-location with PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL, Mr. Chusak Deetrakunwattanapoen, President, TCPA, said: “The international expertise and regional know-how of MDA coupled with TCPA’s industry network make for a winning partnership in providing  a targeted platform for the corrugated manufacturing sector; representing a broad range of corrugated packaging demand in related industries including food & beverage, transport and logistics, healthcare and others domestically, regionally and internationally.”

“The co-location of the exhibition with PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL will also be a strong complement for the synergistic industries, and together I believe we are sending a positive and powerful message to the markets that will be beneficial for all involved,” he added.

Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, Messe Düsseldorf Asia, said: “As a regionally focused event, and based on the genuine demand from the industry garnered from our market research and discussions with TCPA, the introduction of CorruTec ASIA 2021 is an exciting addition to the industry calendar. Especially on the back of a post pandemic landscape which has seen dynamic market changes – from companies looking at relocating supply chains, the rise in e-commerce and strong demand for packaged food, to its [corrugated packaging] reputation as one of the most used eco-friendly packaging solutions – we believe that the exhibition is well-timed and that the industries will be business-ready at CorruTec ASIA.”

With the packaging and printing sectors among the 13 industries expected to expand in a post pandemic era according to the Federation of Thai Industries3, the co-location of CorruTec ASIA with PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL (PPI), was also well-received by The Thai Packaging Association and The Thai Printing Association – both co-organisers of PPI together with Messe Düsseldorf Asia

Mr Manit Kamolsuwan, President, The Thai Packaging Association expressed that the co-location of the two shows is key to furthering pack-print’s symbiotic relationship. He is confident that the innovative printing technologies presented will contribute to elevating both the carton manufacturing process and end users’ experience, and that business owners stand to benefit from the co-located shows with its full suite of accompanying seminars and events.

Drawing on the successes of past editions of PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL, with its  broadening  internationality  and  numbers  of  both  exhibitors   and  visitors, Mr Pongthira Pathanapiradej, President, The Thai Printing Association says, “(This) is indeed confirmation of why this event is the most important for the printing and packaging sector in this region. I believe that the 8th edition of PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL will bring in more success with its pertinent and timely co-location with CorruTec ASIA.”

INDOPLAS, INDOPACK and INDOPRINT rescheduled to 11 – 14 August 2021

INDOPLAS, INDOPACK and INDOPRINT rescheduled to 11 – 14 August 2021

The Indonesian International Plastics, Packaging and Printing Exhibition will be moved to the second half of the year and will take place from 11–14 August. As Indonesia’s leading all-in-one exhibition focusing on innovative technologies and solutions from the co-related plastics, packaging and printing sectors, the venue for INDOPLAS, INDOPACK and INDOPRINT remains unchanged at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Indonesia.

Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, Messe Düsseldorf Asia, said: “The international trade exhibition is recognised for its depth of products and services on the show floor, vibrant line-up of local and international conferences and seminars, and unique platform for networking. With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Indonesia’s domestic border openings and restrictions on international travel and large-scale events, which are likely to continue in the first half of the year, we feel a reschedule was necessary in order to meet the standards of an international trade exhibition that our stakeholders have come to expect.”

“We hope that by moving the exhibitions to August 2021, this will give greater market confidence and optimism and give more time for international participants to make travel preparations. The August dates will also ensure better returns on investment and marketing value for exhibitors and visitors,” he added.

Mrs Rini Sumardi, Director, Wahana Kemalaniaga Makmur, PT (WAKENI), said: “In these evolving and dynamic times, adaptability and flexibility are key and we strongly feel that the Indonesian market will be better positioned to do business and manage large-scale events safely and successfully in the second half of the year.”

“We remain committed to meet the business needs of our industry partners, exhibitors and trade visitors, and will stay steadfast in nurturing these trusted relationships for an even more successful participation in August. We will continue to work closely with our stakeholders and are taking immediate steps to provide the required support necessary,” she added.

The INDOPLAS, INDOPACK and INDOPRINT team will reach out to all industry partners, confirmed exhibitors and participants for event logistics and planning.

Looking ahead to PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021: Defining Packaging and Printing in Asia

Looking ahead to PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021: Defining Packaging and Printing in Asia

The 2021 exhibition theme takes on an optimistic outlook to focus on future-oriented technology and innovation as it presents end-to- end packaging and printing solutions

Packaging and printing innovations and new solutions will take centre stage at PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021 - International Packaging and Printing Exhibition for Asia, scheduled for 22 – 25 September 2021 at BITEC, Bangkok, Thailand. With the exhibition taking place on the back of the projected recovery of global economies in a post-COVID19 world, the packaging and printing industries will be energised to do business and to seize new growth opportunities.

“As with many sectors, the packaging and printing industries have felt the heat from the crisis, but it has also been a catalyst for change across these sectors and many businesses have had to restructure how they operate. Industry 4.0 and automation will be trends that would have been accelerated and companies that used to be resistant or slow in its adoption would have had to make quick decisions to adopt the technologies to stay relevant and productive,” said Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, Messe Düsseldorf Asia.

Expanding on this point Mr Pongthira Pathanapiradej, President, The Thai Printing Association said that certain segments in the printing  industry have experienced growth, fulfilling the needs of both the domestic market’s increased demand in online consumption of goods and services, as well as the push in demand for export of ready-to-eat products globally. “The  printing sector has responded by adapting to new sales platforms and implementing new packaging models. With creative direction, innovative technology and flexibility of operations, the Thai printing industry aims to strengthen ties between the various cluster businesses as we collectively prepare for the future. PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL gives us the ideal platform for our vision, as it continually draws together the industry’s best to the regional printing hub that is Thailand.”

PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL with its highly focused international business setting and new solutions offering will be well placed to stimulate investment and innovation, which is exactly what the industries need, according to Mr Ringling. He added: “We are optimistic that by this time next year, there will be  a more upbeat outlook and PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021 will be well positioned to field a power-packed edition, bringing high quality packaging and printing technology and cost-efficient solutions to the forefront in one central networking and sourcing marketplace, as companies look to upskill and upgrade, explore new business models and revenue streams.”

Exhibition for the industry by the industry
A tripartite collaboration between Messe Düsseldorf Asia, The Thai Packaging Association and The Thai Printing Association, PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL is modelled after No.1 global trade fairs in their respective sectors – drupa and interpack, held in Germany. PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021 aims to extend the innovative flavour and technology presented in Düsseldorf to the Thai and regional audience; providing a benchmark exhibition for stakeholders in Southeast Asia to experience first-hand engaging with some of the best the global packaging and printing industry has to offer.

Countries like Thailand – already a regional hub for packaging and printing –  will continue to be in a prime position to abate the disruption in global supply chains caused by the crisis; attracting multinational companies looking to penetrate and expand their footprint in the region. This geographical edge, complemented with PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL’s internationality and appeal to both renowned brand names and SMEs, presents the ideal platform  to connect companies, creating new business opportunities. The trade and supply chain disruptions caused by the crisis has put Thailand in the spotlight  as a magnet location for investment and business expansion.

According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), 13 industries are projected to expand after the crisis, namely medical and healthcare devices, pharmaceutical, information and communication technology,  pulp  and paper, sugar, air-conditioning and cooling systems, food, electricity generating, chemical, rubber products, plastic, printing and packaging and aluminium products1.

In the packaging space, particularly medical packaging, food packaging products and e-commerce related sectors, the crisis has boosted demand. The packaging sector has also experienced increased demand fuelled by rising exports across agricultural, industrial and agro-industrial economic sectors. Commenting on the need for smaller packaging companies to ride on the waves of opportunity, Mr Manit Kamolsuwan, President of The Thai Packaging Association said: “We will continue to work hand in hand with the packaging and printing sectors for a sustainable future and we believe PRINT INTERNATIONAL offers the perfect confluence for these sectors to come together to find complementary business solutions.”

Setting trends @ PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021
As a well-established exhibition serving the region’s packaging and printing needs, re-bookings have already been received from international brand names such as Konica Minolta, Kurz, Tsukatani, Zund as well as local players and prominent distributors; Bangkok Paper Business, Comprint, Cyber SM, Docusys, Foilmaster, Nationwide, Press Systems, Sansin, to name a  few. PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021 aims to inspire the industry to think ahead and to provide the right showcase of products and solutions for the industry to invest in the future. Key highlights include:
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Self-learning machines
  • Technology with better productive maintenance and zero downtime, clear traceability

Complementing the broad exhibit range of technology, machinery, products and services representing the entire packaging and printing value chain, the exhibition will also feature a strong line-up of conferences and seminars with the sharing of best practices and knowledge exchange from international and local experts.

At the last edition, the exhibition attracted 325 companies from 30 countries and over 19,000 trade visitors, and with the optimistic outlook for 2021, exhibitor and visitor participation numbers are looking strong. Particularly with PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021 extending its reach to visitors coming from a broad range of industries and diverse application areas, including print and packaging houses and converters, marketing, publishing and media sectors, vertical markets and those in the future technologies industry. All of which require good packaging, customisation, labelling and packaging printing – to create attractive, cost-efficient and sustainable products in an increasingly crowded and competitive marketplace.

Strong performance at PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2019 reflective of positive outlook for Asia’s packaging and print markets

  • Growing international profile; more than 19,000 visitors from 62 countries, with international visitors making up 30 percent
  • Stellar line-up of 325 international exhibiting companies and brands from 30 countries and regions
Breaking records and exceeding expectations yet again is the 7th edition of PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL held at BITEC, Bangkok last month. Closing to resounding success, the biennially-staged International Packaging and Printing Exhibition for Asia welcomed over 19,000 packaging and printing trade visitors from 62 countries, representing a near 15 percent increase from 2017 and clocking in a high 30 percent of overseas visitorship. Top five visitor markets registered from abroad were India, Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Myanmar. Similar upward trend was seen on the exhibitor’s front, where an almost 10% increase in participation was recorded. This brought to the bustling show floor future ready innovations and solutions by 325 companies and brands from 30 countries, including some of the best local players as well as national pavilions from Germany, China, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.

Proving its relevance and appeal as the region’s premier sourcing event for machine distributors, packaging and printing service providers, licensing manufacturers and finished goods producers, the exhibition also received growing interest from international visiting delegations from the Korea Packaging Association, Myanmar Paper & Pulp Association, Myanmar Printers and Publishers Association, several others from Japan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, as well as more than 40 local printing and packaging visiting groups from leading FMCG companies. Alongside these was an extended visitor profile that covered a wide range of industries and application areas, including print and packaging houses and converters, marketing, publishing and media sectors, vertical markets and those in the future technologies industry.

Exhibition sales success: A proven business promotion platform
A joint collaboration by The Thai Packaging Association, The Thai Printing Association and Messe Düsseldorf Asia since 2007, the success trajectory of PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL as an exhibition for the industry, by the industry was hard to miss.

Exemplifying this point this year were numerous first-time product launches by global brands at the exhibition. First up was the worldwide launch of the offset press Speedmaster CX 75 by Heidelberg and Masterwork. A German-made machine for commercial, label and packaging printing packed with optimisations in the feeder, delivery and colour configuration, the multi-talent press was sold by day two of the exhibition along with all the machines that were on show at Heidelberg’s booth.

Next was Canon’s Southeast Asia Premiere of its Océ Colorado 1650, a 64-inch production graphics printer featuring two innovations in the form of a new flexible ink, and Océ FLXfinish technology. To which, three units were sold by the end of the first day of the exhibition, with many more potentials in the pipeline.

In enhancing the capabilities of its print technology, HP opted to present its end-to-end web-to-print solutions at the exhibition. Some of these highlights included the debut of the HP Indigo 7000 sheet-fed digital offset colour press to the Thai market and the inaugural HP Digital Print Pavilion featuring real-life customer testimonials, case studies and the diverse applications of HP’s Indigo technology.

For Japanese brand, OKI, they presented their newly launched label printers - the Pro1040 and Pro1050 – the world’s first, small single-cut label specialised printers. Other packaging and printing heavyweights on show included; Koenig & Bauer, Konica Minolta, Riso, Fujifilm, Ricoh, Bobst, KURZ, Zund, Fuji Xerox, SCG Packaging, Sansin, Selic Corp, PMC Label Materials, and more.

This optimistic sentiment and economic confidence in the domestic and regional markets was also echoed by Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia; “Sales and business promotion activities remain  at the heart of  a trade exhibition and we are delighted that many successful business dealings and collaborations were formed right on the spot at PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2019. The energy and dynamism across all four show days coupled with the healthy increase in visitor numbers, particularly from those overseas, reinforces the exhibition’s draw as a focal point for suppliers and buyers to gain prospects and quality leads, as well as to make business connections and inroads into Thailand and the regional marketplace.”

Forward-looking exhibition and knowledge-driven programme
Driven by the confluence of disruptive digital technologies and the evolving momentum of Thailand 4.0, the rich menu of exhibition highlights were pervaded by thematic zones such as the return of the successful One Stop Pack & Print Pavilion which served as a hub for trade professionals to reach out to member companies and packaging users and get free professional advice, a Labelling Zone that covered advanced end-use packaging applications to a wider spectrum of label printing, a Prototype showcase, and displays of product packaging designs by students of Toyota Art Camp University and winning entries of the AsiaStar 2019 Awards.

As a knowledge-building platform for the packaging and printing sectors, more than 1,500 delegates attended over 50 industry-focused concurrent events spearheaded by 35 industry experts; these included: the ASEAN Printing and Packaging Conference held in conjunction with the ASEAN Printing Forum 2019, an Asian packaging seminar on sustainable packaging for the circular economy by the Asian Packaging Federation, a Food & Beverage Packaging conference, the 2019 Asian Print Awards, a workshop on professional product photography by Photo Business Association, Thailand, as well as free-to-attend technical presentations by exhibitors.

PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL is modelled after the sectors’ leading trade fairs, drupa and interpack, by the Messe Düsseldorf Group in Germany. Validating its success, a host of companies have already signed up and confirmed their participation for PACK PRINT INTERNATIONAL 2021 which will be held from 22 to 25 September at BITEC, Bangkok.
