DEC.SMS-e™ - Solvent Recovery Unit (Smart Modular System)

What is it used for?
 
DEC SRUs allow the recovery of your solvents used for dilution and contained in the chemicals (inks, adhesives, varnishes, etc.), at a purity equal or greater than virgin purchased products.

Fully-Customized systems: the CBS-x™ design
 
Activated carbon adsorption technology, a BAT & BREF (Best Available Technology, IPPC 96/61/EC), can comply with the lowest emission limits (i.e. European Directive 1999/13/EC, TA Luft 2002), achieving removal efficiencies even higher than 99.9 percent.

When you deal with important quantities of valuable solvents (Ethyl Acetate, Ethyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Acetate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Toluene, Hexane, MEK etc.) solvent recovery CBS-x™ is the customized plant family to select: this serie allows substantial savings over other emission control destructive techniques, like RTO.

Recycling Reduces Emissions of Air and Water Pollutants

By reducing the amount of new solvents used by industry, recycling also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and helps prevent global climate change. This is because much of the solvents used in industrial processes are one of the most important sources of carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions into the environment. Additional benefits are derived from reduced emissions from oxidizers.

In addition to greenhouse gases, recycling can reduce a range of pollutants from entering the air and water. By decreasing the need to extract and process new raw materials from the earth, recycling can eliminate the pollution associated with the initial stages of a product's development: material extraction, refining and processing. These activities pollute the air, land and water with toxic materials, such as ammonia, carbon monoxide, methane, and sulfur dioxides. Further reductions are achieved as a result of energy saving, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants.

DEC.XTO™ thermal oxidizer - VOC treatment system

Whenever you have to face a "non recoverable" stream of VOCs, a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (DEC.RTO™) or a Catalytic Thermal Oxidizer (DEC.CTO™) could be the solution: sometimes the VOC stream is too complex to be recovered or the quantity of solvents is not interesting to go for a solvent recovery system, based on activated carbon adsorption.


The oxidation reaction is:

VOCs (CxHyOz) + O2 + thermal energy = CO2 + H2O + (HEAT)
The HEAT is usually recovered to pre-heat the SLA stream, in order to save on "thermal energy" (provided through gas CH4 - methane); if producing extra heat through oxidation of solvents, an energy recovery system shall be foreseen (typical applications are ranging from heating up air for dryers, steam production, heat tranfer fluid heating, water heating - industrial or sanitary, etc.).

Increased Efficiency, low emissions
VOC and HAP laden air from the process is drawn into the oxidizer system with the help of the fan system (V-1). Through high performance valves, the SLA flow is directed through high efficiency energy recovery chambers, where is pre-heated; the process gas and contaminants are progressively heated in the ceramic media beds as they move toward the combustion chamber.

Once oxidized in the combustion chamber, the hot gas releases thermal energy while leaving through the stack, going through the ceramic media bed, exchanging the thermal energy and cooling down.

Thanks to the switching valves, the flow is alternatively reversed: thermal energy is recovered and the flow, in the following cycle, is pre-heated; this cycle is efficiently reducing the auxiliary fuel requirement, with self-sustaining operation (with no auxiliary fuel usage) even at low concentrations, thus representing an operational cost reduction.

GHG and by-products
Basically an oxidizer is handling the transformation of the pollutant(s) into products with a reduced environmental impact.

An oxidizer will have to deal with all or most of the following subjects:

 

  • VOCs emission (= non complete oxidation);
  • CO2 emission (= GHG, possible taxation);
  • CO emission (= GHG, non complete oxidation);
  • NOx emission (= nitrogen oxides, as a result of N2 presence);
  • N2O emission (= nitrous oxide);
  • Dioxin emission (as a result of possible chlorinated compounds);
  • High temperature emission (as a result of non complete thermal energy recovery).
